DJ Jus’ Phil

Music has always been a part of DJ Jus Phil’s life. His uncle ran the door at the legendary Hacienda night club in Manchester. Another favourite night spot was Bugged Out held at Sankeys Soap every Friday, both these nights gave him a direction for what he wanted out of life. A good party with good music.

In 1998 Phil travelled all over the UK and along the way met Fergie at Phil’s own night, Friction in Sheffield. A lot of Phil’s inspiration came from Fergie as they were of a similar age, the more time they spent together the more he learnt. Finishing the weekends off at Trade @ Turnmills opened his eyes even more to what was possibly the perfect party. Now he settles for nothing less.

Moving back to his home town in 2000, brought his attention to the Technics DJ Academy and soon after completing the course he was asked to become a tutor, teaching everything from DJ skills to music production. This became his life for 5 successful years at the Academy, teaching over 1000 students from all over the world, some of which are doing really well for themselves.

Phil made the decision to the leave the Academy in 2005 and form his own label Monu-Mental Records along with Cesco (a past student at the Academy) as a means to releasing his own cutting edge productions and pushing other up and coming artists. Artists such as Kevin Gorman, Stian Klo, Picrudo have already had great success on the label. Phil’s releases ‘May B, V.I.P and Summer Class’ have had huge support from Fergie on his Radio 1 show and from world wide artists like Laurent Garnier, Sharam Jey, Deep Groove, Audio Jack and many more, clearly demonstrating his professionalism as a label manager and producer.

Appearances include Turnmills, Ministry of Sound, Sankeys, GodsKitchen, Ritmoloco as well as Ibiza and played alongside Sebastian Leger, Valentino Kanzyani, Jel Ford, Mauro Picotto, Micky Slim and of course Fergie. He was also featured last summer in a ‘Best of British Futures’ show alongside James Talk, Dave Robertson, Kevin Gorman on Radio 1. Now at the start of 2007, Phil’s diary is busier than ever with gigs, remix work, and various other projects.
