I looked at my pre order for GTA4 this morning on Amazon and was confronted by a date 2 weeks after release. So i cancelled it and decided to play my luck.
There are a lot of retailers still taking orders but the following tactics are probably the best way to get your copy of the most eagerley anticipated game in ages:
- Buy on release day
This all might be one of those hype up situations where retailers aren’t told numbers, but obviously you need balls of steel to go with this tactic. This may be a risky strategy because of the worldwide release date. - Order the Special Edition
The SE version that comes with a rockstar duffle bag, key ring, security box and art book is still available for release day from some retailers. Only thing is that Game are the only ones saying they will deliver for release day and at £69.99 thats a big investment. Zavvi are selling 360 version for £58 + free delivery. - Order from ‘Mainstream’ Retailer
This is a good tactic my mate used for getting his 360 a week before release date several years ago. Try the guys that no one goes to… Woolworths, Sainsburys, Tesco, PC World, Dixons. They will all be about same price but some might have a copy for release day because all serious gamers generally go for the specialist shops. - Get a Mate ‘Inside’
In true GTA style get on the blower and call in some of those favours you’ve racked up over the years. Employees of retailers will have a better idea of the numbers and may be able to get it you at release date.
Personally i am going to try and get the game through any avenue possible even if that includes pawning my body to elderly females to relive their glory days Being John Malkovich style. Failing that just play COD4 for a couple more weeks…
